Having made a bowl, I began work on my second project, a candlestick. Roughing down the rectangular blank to a cylinder sends small chips of wood everywhere. In fact you end up with a shirt full of little bits of wood. At the end of the day, you have to untuck yourself and shake all the chipping out before you go into the house!
The candlestick is made in two parts, the shaft and the base. The base is turned in the same you turn a bowl.
And this one is finished with shellac and canuba wax, which I'm told has many uses in the sweet industry possibly even to polish Smarties! But that may just be a rumour!
