What a privilege

Although I felt totally out of my depth for the last three days, that doesn't take away the privilege it was to meet some amazing athletes. Here are two, but they were not the only ones.

I'm in the process of preparing a sermon about the woman caught in adultery and I've been thinking about Jesus stooping down and what it means. This video shares a very important aspect of what it meant for Jesus to stoop down.

Shut up and Listen Evangelism!

Leonard Sweet has written a new book Nudge and this video interview explores the ideas in and behind the book. If you are familiar with ideas like partnership with God in his mission and doable evangelism, then this will sound reassuring!

During the interview you will hear the contrast between the traditional "Go and tell" strategy for outreach and the "Shut up and listen" strategy that Sweet talks about. I think the book might be worth a read!

If only we could make this

When I listen to stories like these, I wonder just what it would take to see this kind of fruit in our community.

Every day I pray that God would add to the church those who are being saved. And I ask too for the boldness and awareness we need to engage our community with God's great invitation.

Reggie McNeal "Unleashed 2010"

I've posted a video of Reggie McNeal before, and this one contains many of the same themes and ideas as that one. but it's still worthwhile watching and listening to the passion with which he speaks about the need for the church to change, to move from a "what" idea of church to a "who".

Three things he says in this video that stood out, not recorded verbatim, but as close as I can get without listening again!

We plant a church and hope to start a movement.. [but] churches grow out of a movement

We exported stuff that didn't work here and called it foreign mission

God's redemptive mission is to address everything sin broke across the whole bandwith of life

Advent Conspiracy

I first came across AC last year but had completely forgotten until someone else I know blogged about it. How could I have forgotten!

I'll probably use the videos to promote alternative gift ideas for Christmas. The last few years we've done alternative gifts as well as the more usual gifts for each other.

To be known is to be loved...

Not sure when it was, possibly a couple of years ago, I came across this video. I bought it then, and am going to use it at church for the first time this weekend. The main reason I've waited so long is because I kept losing the DVD copy we made!

We're currently doing a series on love and this video is a powerful expression of the desire to be loved through the eyes of the woman at the well. I bought my copy from Faith Visuals, but I think it might also be available on Sermon Spice.

Mary did you know?

I first came across this song by complete accident. When cable first came to Newark we got the Country Music channel for free. One day, while I had it on in the background as I was reading, on came Kathy Mattea singing a Christmas song called "A new kid in town" as I recall.

A week or so later I was in Nottingham wandering through the Virgin Megastore when I saw the CD from which the song was taken. So I bought it and played it one the way home. Many of the songs are wonderful to listen to and her voice is so powerful. Then came Mary did you know? and I stopped in my tracks.

So if you haven't heard this before, enjoy it and if you have I hope you like hearing it again. Merry Christmas:
